Situated within in the massive masonry piers supporting the landmark Rotunda of the Museum of Science and Industry, this stairwell-enhancement project creatively addressed a concern regarding the low height of the existing handrails while adding to the aesthetic interest of this staircase. Teamwork and value engineering simplified implementation and reduced costs while improving safety and enhancing the visitor’s visual experience within the iconic, sky-lit stairwells.
